Phyllis Blau Callaway, age 81, of Auburn Hills, Michigan passed away on 9/23/2024. Phyllis was born in Los Angeles, California, May 20th, 1943. She was predeceased by her parents Samuel Blau and Lydia Rappaport and by her brother Hank Blau. She was married to Royce Callaway to whom she was wed for 56 years. She is survived by her three children, Todd Callaway, M.Arch, Stacy Huggar, MBA, and Beth Morley, MA; seven grandchildren, David Huggar, Andrew Huggar, Samantha Callaway, Caitlin Callaway, Lucy Morley, Max Morley and Harper Morley and her two great-grandchildren, Miles Huggar and Dylan Huggar.

Phyllis was an artist at heart, and passionately curious. She considered herself a professional homemaker and was proud of the job she did raising her three children and providing a lively and loving home that was filled with laughter and whimsy. Phyllis believed in never growing up and was an avid collector of toys. She was a garage sale queen, conversed with psychics, hosted lavish Halloween parties, made stained glass windows, painted murals, decorated birthday cakes, sewed quilts, and pursued countless creative endeavors. Her home was always open to visitors, and she was generous to a fault, often giving beyond what she could spare.

The daughter of Ukrainian immigrants she was proud of her ancestry and shared her Jewish traditions with her children and anyone who was interested. She will be remembered for her larger than life personality, her willingness to embrace the silly and her belief that “life is a banquet and most poor suckers are starving to death”.

I write about writing and my life and sometimes about books but never about politics because we are all sick of that nonsense.
